This baby bat is hanging upside down from a twig, but it looks perfectly happy about it. Big round eyes, a tiny smile, and wide pointed wings make it one of the cutest Halloween pages in the collection. The wings are split into long sections, which gives kids a natural reason to try a pattern: alternate two colors, fade from dark to light, or add little stars inside each panel. Bats are not scary at all, and this page is a nice way to share a few fun facts while coloring. Bats sleep upside down, they come out at night to eat insects, and some bats help flowers grow by carrying pollen. Preschoolers can focus on the big body and wings, while kids in early elementary school can add a night sky with a moon and more bats in the background. When you are done, cut along the outline and hang your bat from a doorway with a piece of string so it can hang just like the real thing.
