Not every ghost wants to say boo. This little one just wants to be your friend. With big shiny eyes, a wide happy smile, and two soft rounded arms held out like it is ready for a hug, it is the perfect first Halloween page for kids who are a little unsure about spooky things. The shape is simple and rounded, with lots of open space inside, so toddlers and preschoolers can scribble happily while older kids experiment. Who says ghosts have to be white? Try a pastel rainbow, a starry night pattern, or a soft glow of light blue around the edges. You can also practice emotions together: ask your child how the ghost is feeling and why, then draw a friend for it on the back of the page. Coloring the ghost with a white crayon first and painting over it with watercolor makes a fun resist-art surprise, because the crayon lines pop through the paint. Cut out a few finished ghosts and hang them on a string for an easy homemade Halloween garland, or tape one to a bedroom door as a friendly guard for the night.
